This seminar is to be an occasion to explore the sources and possible future development of the emerging sense that "education," very broadly conceived, is the motor of "culture"---that is of the ongoing transformation of human productions.
The exact shape of the seminar will evolve based on the students' interests as they imagine, or further develop, systematic research based on their emerging sense of might throw further light on some concern (or, in the more usual way of putting it: "come up with research questions").
Specifically, I hope to run the seminar as a kind of collective independent study with each student coming up with a list of works they want to read and discuss with me and their peers.
The seminar will make most sense for students with some background in the social sciences, and also possibly for students in philosophy and psychology.
While the course is not coded as requiring permission for registration, it would make sense for students to check the requirements and also contact me directly about what I hope will happen:

Students with little background in anthropology or the related fields but interested in what anthropology as to offer to educational studies should also consider the other course I teach this Spring 2025:
