On my way to Salem for Bible Study, I met Karen Robinson as we were walking out of the subway station at 125th Street and Lenox. I saw her first and of course she was surprised “what are you doing here, Prof. Varenne.” She had not heard about our project, nor about Linda. She was properly enthusiastic {though in the same kind of surprised fashion as John Nelson} about the project. She was carrying a pizza and told me she was going home to her place on 127th between Lenox and Fifth. I asked her about her ties to Harlem. She said she had lived for 2 years at this address. She was mostly raised in Washington Heights but was born and spent her first years in Harlem. Her mother used to be a member of Convent Baptist. I asked her about Alisha Taylor whom she knew of but had never associated with Convent. I asked her about her church affiliation. She told me she does not have any now, and that her mother keeps hassling her about it. I said we should talk some time and we parted at the corner of 127th.

{Karen Robinson is ABD in the anthropology programs at TC. She was one of the bright ones in the colloquium, did fieldwork someplace in the Carribean and attached herself to Comitas and Bond. She was also secretary for at least two years. I lost track of her academically. I believe she passed her exam but know nothing about her dissertation plan. When talking about our not being aware of our work she said something to the effect that she had not been around much and she intended to come and visit us sometime. What happened?}
