What are we to do with the phrase "Community of Practice "?

This was a small conference for students who were considering using the "concept" (?) "model" (?) of "community of practice" in their own research.

Three doctoral students and I talked about the usefulness of the model of "community of practice" in our work. We met on Tuesday, June 13, 2003,from 4 to 6 or seven (followed perhaps by a drink/dinner).

The event started with three presentations on

1. Maori schools in New Zealand (by Torica Webb),
2. Buddhist nuns in Taiwan (by Christina Lo),
3. anime clubs in the US (by Akiko Murata),

with a discussion by myself, then opening to a discussion. I talked about one piece I just completed on NCATE (and the "polities of practice" it constitutes)
